NEWS ARTICLES ON ACCESSIBILITY
WCAG 3.0’s Proposed Scoring Model: A Shift in Accessibility Evaluation
WCAG is evolving. Since 1999, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines have defined accessibility in binary terms: either a success criterion is met or not. But real user experience is rarely that simple. WCAG 3.0 rethinks the model, prioritizing usability over compliance and shifting the focus toward the quality of access rather than the mere presence of features. Could this be the start of a new era in accessibility?
AI Overviews Have Transformed Google Search
People turn to the internet to run billions of search queries each year. These range from keeping tabs on world events and celebrities to learning new words and getting DIY help. One of the most popular questions Australians recently asked was: “How to inspect a used car?”.
The European Accessibility Act Is Here: Are Your Digital Experiences Compliant?
The European Accessibility Act raises the stakes for digital compliance and opens the door to a massive, underserved market. EAA compliance is now mandatory. As of June 28, 2025, public and private businesses must ensure accessible digital products or face penalties.
99.89% of Emails Sent are Inaccessible
Accessibility in HTML emails remains critically under-addressed in 2025. Across the ecosystem, accessibility failures are systemic, widespread, and largely preventable. After analyzing 443,585 emails collected over the past year, we found that 99.89% contain accessibility issues rated “Serious” or “Critical.” Only 21 emails passed all automated accessibility checks, and they came from just two brands.
Work with People with Disability to Design Transformative Digital Assistive Tools and Tackle Accessibility Barriers, says Royal Society Report
Tech companies, researchers, and governments should do more to remove barriers and engage people with disabilities in the design of digital assistive tools and services, to maximize the transformative benefits they can bring, a Royal Society report has said. The Disability technology report, from the UK’s national academy of sciences, identifies digital assistive technologies (DigAT), from screen readers to smartphone navigation apps, as critical tools for the 1.3 billion people with disabilities worldwide to live fulfilled, independent lives.
Does Using AI Reduce Your Brain Activity?
Artificial intelligence can be helpful for a lot of things, depending on how you’re using it. A new study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab has found that using AI can affect your brain activity. For their study, the team asked 54 students to write essays using either their brains, a search engine, or ChatGPT.
How Travel is Getting Smart and More Sustainable with AI
Tourism contributes around 9% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with aviation accounting for more than 50% of the total. Disability Discrimination Persists Despite Growing Awareness and Advocacy
Alexa Zuckerman, a junior majoring in history, grips her forearm crutches as she braces for her battle to get onto the only elevator at Frey Hall. She propels her black crutches forward into the cramped silver space, but a pack of students cuts in front of her, causing her to lose the last spot on the elevator.
